|This was the most important event of the year for MCB and its members. Everyone had been looking forward to it with high spirits. After weeks of preparation and dance practices, the day finally arrived. Close to a hundred members and friends came together on Saturday, 20 November 2004 in the Maritim Hotel Munich to celebrate and participate in this wonderful event.
The occasion was graced by the presence of the Malaysian Ambassador to Germany, HE Dato’ Kamal Ismaun. Furthermore, our main sponsor, Mr. Christopher Yek, General Manager of MAS in Frankfurt was also there to give us his unfailing support. Encik Johnny Isuh and Encik Zalafian Mohd. Dini who provided consular services to Malaysians earlier in the day were present as well. Unfortunately, Datin Jamilah, the Ambassador’s wife and Mr. Sam Appadurai of Tourism Malaysia, another major sponsor, were unable to attend the function.
The Club President, Jackie Mischkulnig welcomed all the guests and gave a short speech on the activities organised by the committee throughout the year. In his speech, Dato’ Kamal stressed the importance of preserving our Malaysian culture abroad and the significant role of Malaysians in Germany.
The cultural dance performance by MCB ladies received encouraging applause. Fergus Rae, the MC for the evening kept everyone on their toes and in happy mood. Alen Mischkulnig entertained the guests with music from his saxophone. Aine Leiner, Fauziah Coroli and Shamina Wright coordinated the fashion show, showing off parents and their offsprings in colourful traditional costumes. Shamsie and her Macarena dancers got the audience on the floor to swing and sway their hips.
The tombola was able to raise some much needed funds for the function. Lots of prizes were given away a return air ticket to Malaysia, a week’s hotel accommodation in Penang, cash vouchers, hampers, etc etc.
No doubt that everyone had a good time and some great laughs, especially when the men paraded themselves in an attempt to win the prize for the best-dressed gentleman of the evening, or when couples had to burst as many balloons as possible, squashing them between their bodies. The Asian buffet offered a variety of delicious dishes to choose from and there was more than enough to go around. To sum everything up, the function turned out well and the feedback had been very positive and encouraging.
On behalf of Malaysia Club Bayern I would like to thank all sponsors for their generous support. All efforts by the Committee, members and friends to make the D&D a success are very much appreciated. Thank you!
